2016 RED DAY Update and Call For Action
Keller Williams Realty Centres (KWRC) will be among nearly 112,000 Keller Williams associates from across the globe participating in the eighth annual RED Day which is being held on May 12, 2016. RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, is a collective service initiative where the company’s associates donate a day to give back to the community. KWRC has participated in Red Day for seven years helping such organizations as Inn from the Cold, Doan Hospice Historical House and Salvation Army Camp.
For our 2016 initiative, KWRC will be making a difference for 5 struggling families in the Newmarket and Brandford area. We will also be helping at the Georgina Food Pantry. We want to protect the privacy of the families we are helping but would also like to share some of their stories.
Family 1 has been battling ongoing health issues since 2006, included cancer, stroke, heart failure, kidney failure. This family has been unable to earn any sort of reasonable income for several years as the spouse is tasked with being the primary caregiver. Time and expenses have eroded all savings and the equity in the home. We will be painting, de-cluttering, organizing, and some minor repairs; as well as sprucing up the outside.
Family 2 has been battling stage 4 cancer for 4+ years and has caused the wife to not be able to work. The husband is working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week to try and compensate for her loss of income. Time and energy has eroded the home and the finances. We will be painting, re-doing laminate floors, de-cluttering and an overall general clean up of in and outside the home.
Family 3 had started renovations on the dream kitchen and main floor. One of the couple went to the hospital with some concerns. An aggressive cancer was discovered and she passed away within weeks. The spouse tried desperately to complete the dream kitchen in time, however his wife passed away before the work could be finished. The home is now in upheaval mid work and all the money available was used to pay for the funeral. We will finish the laminate flooring and paint the main floor.
Family 4 bought their dream home to fix it up over time. Health and work issues have caused the work and the repairs to fall further behind. We will go in and help do some painting and mostly outdoor gardening.
Family 5 is an elderly woman with no family in the area. General maintenance has not been kept up. She is very house proud and excited that we can fix the back deck, and help spruce up the gardens and landscape.
Georgina Food Pantry is looking for us to help dig and prepare their community gardens. We are happy to help them with their initiative.
Wondering how you can help? We definitely need donations to be able to undertake making a difference for these families and the Georgina Food Pantry. These are the things we need:
- 100 Gallons of paint
- Painting supplies including brushes, rollers, drop cloths, painter tape, etc.
- 3 x 20 yard dumpsters for trash and debris
- Top soil and annuals for the gardens
- 5 - 6 decorative cedars
- 500 square feet of laminate flooring
If you can help with these requests, or know someone who can, please email Michael Tough and let him know! Thank you for any and all donations. The families, the Georgina Food Pantry and Keller Williams Realty Centres thank you for your support.
